Ontario Works Children

 

Description:

Ontario Works is a social assistance program for people who are in temporary financial need.  The program provides basic dental coverage for children of Ontario Works recipients.  This program will be absorbed into a new HSO program beginning August 1, 2015.

Eligibility:

For children of Ontario Works recipients.

If you are receiving Ontario Works, you and your family may be eligible for certain health-related benefits.

To be eligible for Ontario Works, you must:

•live in Ontario

•need money right away to help pay for food and shelter, and

•be willing to take part in activities that will help you find a job.

Two aspects to assess eligibility:

•your financial situation, and

•your willingness to take part in activities to find a job.

When you apply to Ontario Works, you will need to give information about:

•family size

•income

•assets, and

•housing costs.

Ontario Works staff will use this information to decide if you are financially eligible.

 

Coverage:

Basic dental care as defined in MCSS Fee Guide for children up to 18 years of age.

Includes basic diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, periodontal, prosthodontic, oral surgery services.  Generally dental cards or drug cards provide the dentist/dental hygienist with verification that the person is eligible for the dental benefits covered by the MCSS Schedule of Dental Services and Fees and the MCSS Schedule of Dental Hygienist Services and Fees.

How it Works:

First step is to apply for Ontario Works Social Assistance.

Family then needs to provide proof of OW coverage each month to the dental office.
